Strážnice

Strážnice is an old town with approx. 6.000 inhabitants. First mentions about this town can be traced to 1086.

The town is famous mostly because of the International folklore festival, which is held here every year since 1946. Strážnice is also an important centre of wine-making. There are also located several important monuments and sights. Worth mentioning are especially: the castle with an english park, Skanzen - the Museum of the Villages of South-East Moravia, jewish synagogue with a cemetery, Town Museum, Museum of milling in the Průžka's Mill, Baťa Canal marina, remnats of former fortification and a White Tower - former guarding tower from 1615. Today the tower is open for public (from May till September) and serves as a bell tower and a lookout tower ( South and South-East - White Carpathians, West and North-West Strážnické Pomoraví, South-West Pálava Hills, North-West Chřiby Hills.
