Javorník

A wooden observation tower is located at the hilllock Drahy (360 m) neraby the train station Javorník. The tower is 20 m tall. Local name "Vápenka" or "Nad Vápenkou" is related to the former mine located in this this area.

The observation tower was built in 2009 thanks to the cross-border project "Pozrime sa cez hranice z výšky" (look across the borders from above). In the project took part the municipalities of Javorník, Myjava and Brestovec - on the premises of each of these municipalities was buit an observation tower.

The tower is made from wood and anchored to the concrete base. It was designed by the architect Mária Serdahelyová. After getting through 106 steps you reach the observation post and ftom the altitude of 378 m you can see the tops of the White Carpathians and the Chřiby Hills - Velká Javorina in the east (970 m), Čupec (819 m), Výzkum Hill in the south (631 m), Machová (578 m) and Ostrý vrch (502 m). In the west you can see Žalostinná (621 m), Kobyla (584 m) and the wind mill in Kuželov. In the north you can see the village Velká nad Veličkou and if the visibility os good you can even spot the castle Buchlov.

Since spring 2010 tourist can enjoy the comfort of new parking place and an information board.

The observation tower is freely accessible.
